The prestige lag
Valuable work becomes prestigious after it succeeds. Entrepreneurs need to notice the opportunity before society updates the status map.

Prestige tells you where opportunity was. Entrepreneurs need to know where it is becoming.
A trailing indicator
When everyone agrees a field is important, it is usually no longer early. Prestige is created by previous success: a career becomes prestigious because earlier entrants did well, a city because companies already formed there, a technology after someone proved it could make money.
That means prestige points backward. There is a delay between value and recognition. The work becomes valuable first; society notices later.
Ugly work filters competition
Technically elegant, socially impressive ideas attract ambitious people. Messy problems—payments, compliance, procurement, freight paperwork, construction estimating, industrial maintenance—are avoided precisely because the work looks bureaucratic or ordinary.
The ugly work can act as a competition filter. Separate how interesting the technical problem feels from how valuable the customer problem is. A boring implementation can support an enormous company; a fascinating technical puzzle can support no business at all.
Look for the mismatch
Low prestige alone is not a signal; most ignored things are ignored for good reasons. The interesting combination is pain, growing economic importance, a solvable problem, and social unattractiveness to capable people.
Ask what you wish someone else would fix. Which software do you hate? Where do expensive employees copy data between systems? Which vendor survives only because replacement is painful? Annoyance is often more honest than ambition.
Accuracy, not contrarianism
Ukraine contains important problems that are not theoretical: logistics under uncertainty, distributed energy, construction, reconstruction, cross-border payments, rehabilitation, manufacturing, exports, and government services. Hard local conditions can expose globally relevant product ideas early.
Do not chase low status as a new status game. Reduce prestige's influence on problem selection. If the problem is fashionable and good, work on it. If it is unfashionable and good, work on it. The goal is accuracy.
