Infinite choice dissolves intent
Thousands of tones create a feeling of possibility, but every replacement postpones the decision. A song grows faster when the palette is small enough for differences between gestures to become audible.
An instrument opens over time
After the first hour, we know the presets. After a hundred, we know how the instrument responds to touch, where it breaks, and which accidents can become language.
A deadline is a tool too
Limited time separates the essential from the decorative. It does not automatically improve the work, but it prevents an endless postponement of the song’s encounter with a listener.
You can choose the frame
Useful limits do not have to be imposed. Recording without cymbals, keeping one synth, or refusing to edit the vocal after three takes can create the conditions for a particular character.
